An essential part of the health care team at Sierra View, our respiratory therapists work closely with doctors and nurses to assess and treat patients with cardiovascular and respiratory difficulties. Patients who can benefit from the expertise of a respiratory therapist are those with chronic lung problems (e.g., asthma, bronchitis, emphysema) as well as individuals who have suffered a heart attack, stroke, or other trauma.
Our expert team of respiratory therapists are highly skilled at airway management and they are also an essential part of the Code Blue (cardiac arrest) team. Therapists round throughout the hospital to observe both patients and equipment. If the patient is experiencing respiratory difficulty or abnormal blood levels, therapists can adjust ventilator settings or test equipment for mechanical issues.
