Sierra View District Hospital
foundation events

Throughout each year, the Foundation hosts and participates in a number of fundraisers aimed at raising both financial support and community awareness for Sierra View District Hospital.

Some of the major events the Foundation is involved in include the Sierra View Classic Golf Tournament, the Porterville Breakfast Rotary Cancer Run, The SVDH Foundation Gala, and the Rotary Christmas Tree Auction. Please read below to learn more about these events.

Sierra View Classic Golf Tournament

The Sierra View Golf Classic is an annual event held each spring at River Island County Club in Porterville.  The tournament is a four player team scramble with both men and women welcome to play.  Each year, proceeds from the event go to benefit the Sierra View District Hospital Foundation in their mission to support the hospital in its endeavor to provide quality health care services to Porterville and the surrounding communities. Whether it is through the acquisition of the latest in medical technology, scholarships for our employees or the expansion or opening of a new service line, the Foundation's 17-member voluntary board is committed to the health of our community.

The 6th annual Golf Classic was held on Friday, April 23rd and featured 36 teams and 144 players from across Central California.  Prizes were awarded to first, second and third place teams and individual honors were given to longest drive and closest to the pin.  Also, a 2010 Dodge Journey, courtesy of Mark Sidley's Chrysler Dodge Jeep, awaited any player who could ace the 9th hole.

Tournament play was followed with a beautifully catered meal by the River Island Country Club and the announcements of awards and raffle prize winners.  Although nobody claimed the car this year, everybody enjoyed this worthwhile event which raised over $20,000 in sponsorships and donations for the hospital Foundation.  river_island.jpg

 Porterville Breakfast Rotary Cancer Run/Walk

runners.jpgThis eight-year-old event brings runners and walkers from throughout the community together to raise money for Sierra View District Hospital's Roger S. Good Cancer Treatment Center.  Held each year in honor of a few local individuals who have bravely battled cancer, the run features a five kilometer course and eight separate age divisions.  In addition, there is also a health, wellness and safety fair in the registration area.  The highly successful event has raised over $120,000 for the Cancer Treatment Center in its span.

SVDH Foundation Gala

miracles_in_the_moonlight.jpgOn Saturday, September 12, 2009, the Sierra View District Hospital Foundation hosted its 4th Annual Gala, entitled "Miracles in the Moonlight", at the Hutton residence, McHone Ranch in Springville, Ca.  In just four years, this black-tie event has raised over $215,000 towards various projects and technologically advanced equipment at Sierra View.  Incredible community support has made the Gala one of the premier charity events in southeastern Tulare County.

The proceeds from the 4th annual Gala benefited the Level IIA Nursery project at Sierra View.  Level IIA infants require care beyond stabillization, or are under 32 week's gestation, have low glucose (blood sugar) readings; require antibiotic treatments or respiratory assistance not involving a ventilator.  Currently newborns classified as requiring Level IIA care, must be transferred outside of our community and county.  This often results in a separation of mother and infant and travel outside of the area poses financial hardship on many new families.

The Gala is an evening filled with great food and entertainment, including wine tasting, a live band and raffle drawing.  We hope you will consider participating in the exclusive event this year!

Ticket sales and sponsorship opportunities will be available soon.  If you are interested, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it   and a representative from our planning committee will contact you to discuss any questions that you might have about this exciting event.

Rotary Christmas Tree Auction

The Rotary Christmas Tree Auction took place on December 5, 2009 at River Island Country Clubxmas_tree_09.jpg in Springville.  The event featured beautifully decorated christmas trees which were auctioned off to benefit various non profit organizations throughout the community.

This year, the Sierra View District Hospital Foundation entered a tree in the auction to once again benefit the Friends of Nursing program at the hospital.  The program is crucial in helping Sierra View recruit talented nurses, recognize excellence in the field and promote both the nursing profession and education.  With the shortage of nursing reaching crisis status in California, the need to retain our existing staff and hire new nurses is essential.  With the generosity of this year's donors, the christmas tree earned $7500 for the worthwile cause.
