Preparing for Your Visit

If you have an upcoming appointment with our Rehabilitation Department, we want to provide you with tips to making your visit as successful as possible. Whether this is your first time with a therapist or you've been treated before, this list can help you and our care team make the most of your appointment.

Prepare a List

Before your visit, create a list of topics or questions to bring with you to your appointment. Writing things down can help you remember important information when it comes time to meet with your therapist. A list can even help you realize that you have questions or concerns buried below the surface of your conscience.

What kinds of things should you write down?

  • Any and all questions that you may have, no matter how complex or simple they are.
  • Any symptoms that you have been experiencing and how long they have been an issue. Try to organize symptoms by most bothersome to least. Also note any specific details about each symptom including how certain activities, movements, positions, or times of day affect them.
  • You and your familiy's medical history. We recommend noting everything you can think of, no matter how relevant you think it is. Your therapist might be able to help you understand how certain past matters are affecting your body now. Also include any medications, supplements or vitamins that you're taking in this list.
  • Personal information such as things that are creating stress in your life.
  • Dietary information, such as what kinds of foods are you eating.
  • Try to describe what you may believe to have contributed to your current condition. Is it an injury? Was there an incident that might have caused something or maybe environmental factors?

What to Bring With You

  • Your lists of topics, questions, and concerns
  • A friend or family member, if possible. This can help provide support and help you remember any details you may have forgotten or and to take notes throughout your appointment.
  • Any everyday tools you use to see and hear such as glasses, hearing aids, etc.
  • Lab reports or diagnostic reports that you've received from any prior doctor visits related to your current condition.
  • A list of your physicians and other medical professionals to whom you would like us to send updates regarding your evaluation and progress in rehabilitation.

What to Wear

In general, it is recommended that you avoid wearing overly tight or formal clothing to a rehabilitation therapy session. The session may involve exercises and stretches that would be more comfortable in moveable attire.
It is advised that you ask the staff when scheduling your appointment or prior to coming in if there are any specific guidelines that your therapist would like you to follow.
