Gerard J. Fuchs, MD is an internationally renowned surgeon, researcher and educator with nearly three decades of experience. Dr. Fuchs specializes in minimally invasive procedures for treating kidney stones, as well as advanced endoscopic and urologic laparoscopic surgery.
As a pioneer of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), Dr. Fuchs established the first ESWL treatment center in the western United States. He spearheaded a training program for ESWL, as well as programs in ureteroscopy, percutaneous surgery, retrograde intrarenal surgery and laparoscopic surgery, which are offered regionally and nationally. Alongside his training program, he established a state-of-the-art center for tertiary care endourology and ESWL, where many urologists were able to train on novel technologies. Dr. Fuchs is an internationally sought-after lecturer and teacher, maintaining an active academic calendar, conducting regular surgical demonstrations and teaching his techniques worldwide.
Dr. Fuchs has written many chapters in urologic texts and his research results appear in many peer-reviewed publications. He serves on the editorial boards of several national and international urology journals and holds memberships in professional societies including the Endourological Society, Research on Calculus Kinetics Society and the International Engineering and Urology Society. He has been given honorary membership in the urologic associations of Chile, Costa Rica, Malaysia, Mexico, Paraguay and his native Germany.
