The Boost Continues for Porterville’s Community Vaccination Efforts

Porterville, CA – October 27, 2021:

On October 21, 2021, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) approved the Moderna vaccine for use as a booster vaccine. Sierra View Medical Center and Imperial Ambulance are ready to administer Moderna COVID-19 vaccine booster doses in addition to first, second and booster doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. Following the success of previous partnered vaccination efforts, the City of Porterville and Sierra View will once again feature the Vaccine Roundup event for Round #4. Community members receiving a dose of any available COVID-19 vaccine they are eligible for can receive a $100 gift card to a local Porterville business if they receive a vaccination on October 28, 29, 30 at the vaccination clinic located at 385 Pearson Dr., Porterville, CA 93257. No first or second doses of Moderna will be available; only Moderna booster doses will be available. Helping Porterville and Surrounding Communities

The fourth installment of Porterville’s Vaccine Roundup arrives after the whopping success of Round #3, which took place on October 7, 8, 9, 2021 and closed off with 1,249 COVID-19 vaccinations administered (Round #2 concluded with 795 COVID-19 vaccinations in three days). But the SVMC-Imperial Ambulance efforts continue weekly. The Vaccine Roundup events are a creative way to help the local economy with federal funding from the American Rescue Plan Act funds through the City of Porterville, but community members needing the vaccine need not wait for the next installment. On weeks that there is no incentive, the COVID-19 vaccine continues to be administered at 385 Pearson Dr., Porterville, CA 93257. The clinic operates Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. In addition to the brick and mortar operation, the SVMC-Imperial Ambulance teams continue with mobile outreach working collaboratively with organizations like Porterville College, Burton Unified School District (BUSD). The SVMC-Imperial Ambulance team most recently administered 70 vaccines at a community event in Poplar on Sunday, October 24, 2021. The SVMC-Imperial Ambulance team will return to Poplar on Sunday, November 14, 2021.

Just in Time for the Holidays

It takes weeks for individuals to become fully vaccinated. “We only have a couple of weeks before it’s time to celebrate Thanksgiving,” says Imperial Ambulance Field Supervisor Sean Roberts. “Community members receiving any dose of the vaccine now, as necessary and eligible, are in essence helping to protect the health of the loved ones they may be celebrating the holidays with.

Walk-In Appointments Welcomed. Pre-Scheduled Appointments Encouraged

Walk-in appointments continue to be welcome but pre-scheduled appointments are recommended and may be scheduled. Wait times at the Community Vaccination Clinic may vary but pre-registering will help the staff at the vaccination clinic more quickly provide vaccinations for each patient. If community members experience difficult in registering, they will be welcome as walk-ins. To schedule a vaccination appointment, please visit https://myturn.ca.gov/.

Who Is Eligible to Receive the Booster?

COVID-19 Vaccine booster shots are available for the following Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine recipients who completed their initial series at least 6 months ago and are 65 years and older or 18 and older and fall into one of the following categories: live in long-term care facilities, have underlying medical conditions, work in high-risk settings, or live in high-risk settings. CDC now recommends that certain people are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 booster shot, including those who received Moderna COVID-19 vaccines.
