Preparing for Outpatient Surgery

If you are scheduled for an outpatient procedure at our Flex Care or Ambulatory Surgery Department, the information below will help you properly prepare for your procedure.

Two to three days before your surgery one of our schedulers will call you to verify your personal information. At that time, you will also speak with a registered nurse who will collect a brief medical history from you and give instructions regarding when to eat, what medicines to take, and additional information regarding what lab work or X-rays you may need. Our business office may also contact you to obtain insurance information.

Do not eat solid foods after midnight the night before your surgery unless you have been instructed otherwise. If your child is having surgery, our nurse will discuss feeding instructions with you during your pre-surgical telephone call.

The day of your procedure, please arrive at least one hour before your scheduled time unless otherwise instructed by one of our staff members or your physician. Please bring all health insurance cards to your appointment and wear loose fitting clothes that will not irritate your surgical site post-operation. Please leave all jewelry and any personal valuables at home, as we are not responsible for lost valuables.

If your child is having surgery, it is helpful to bring their favorite toy, blanket, or book. Patients under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian with them to sign medical consent forms. If a power of attorney or guardian is representing the patient, legal documentation must be presented.
